Ford’s New Survey on Driving Habits Reveal Surprising Trends

fordFord recently commissioned Penn Schoen Berland for a new survey that focuses on teen driving habits and perceptions. The survey not only included many teen drivers but also their parents and Ford claims that they have come up with some surprising results that will help them to come up with better car safety features in the future. Ford said that most of the people that participated in the survey wrongly perceive winter month to the deadliest time for teens on the road.

The survey also claims that majority of the road accidents that involve teens are during the summers but most teens and parents feel that they should be more cautious during the winter months. Ford revealed that according to the data provided by NHTSA the data collected from 2007 to 2011 indicates that major fatalities happened during summer. The report claims that in the year 2011 358 teen drivers met accidents during summer months while 271 teen drivers fatalities happened during winter months.

Distracted driving is also one of the major concerns for many parents. The report also highlights that 62% of teen drivers get distracted by others in the car while 61% get distracted to eating and drinking habits in the car. The report also claims that 42% teens turn up the radio loud and that causes distraction while 51% of the teens listen to their iPod or mp3 music player while driving. Surprisingly the report shows that parents are 40% more likely to get distracted by a cell phone compared to their teenage kids.
